To Do List When Driver’s License Is Lost or Stolen

  •  Change your driver license

Change your driver’s license number if someone is using yours as an ID. Go to the Department of Motor Vehicles to get a new number. Contact your telephone and utility companies to prevent a con artist from using a utility bill as proof of residence when applying for new cards. (local DMV detected automatically).

  •  Contact your state’s department of motor vehicles

Contact this department if your driver’s license was stolen or if you think someone is using your driver’s license number to facilitate fraud. Most states will put a fraud alert on your license if you ask for one. You should also request a new license number and fill out the department’s complaint form.
